Many traditional printers are finding out bigger is better when it comes to digital print as the market for wide format continues to grow. Earlier this year, an EFI-VUTEk white paper projected a $34 billion global market for superwide format printing this year, with continued growth through 2010, suggesting commercial printers add large-format printing to their mix of services. Even with the slowing economy, some printers are continuing to see a rise in the business, thanks in part to the success of these big jobs.
For Joe Duffy, president of Digigraph Xpress, Kansas City, Mo., large-format printing really is big business. Since 1996, the company has specialized in banners, mounted posters and trade show displays, and despite economic woes, Duffy says he's seen business grow. "I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop," he says with a chuckle. "But business is up about 35 percent this year. I don't know if it's people battling the recession or just us doing a more effective job in converting prospects to customers--I like to think it is a little bit of both."
