Wise Business Forms, Alpharetta, Ga., introduced tamper-resistant prescription pads with 10 security features, exceeding the Medicare/Medicaid requirements. Prescription pads must contain at least one feature as of April 1, and must contain three as of October 1. Wise offers VOID pantographs, thermochromic ink, artificial watermarks, blue or green backgrounds, a list of all secure features, reverse Rx, microprinting, chemically reactive paper, and toner adhesion coating.

Paris Business Products, Westhampton, N.J., offers several security paper choices that meet or exceed Medicaid’s security feature requirements, the company said. Paris offers its Premier Prescription Paper and other security paper products in different sizes, colors and formats, including 2-part carbonless security paper. The papers include blue and green-screened backgrounds that provide full ink coverage of the sheet, heat-sensitive thermochromatic ink that disappears when subjected to touch or heat of a copier, artificial watermarks that print “DocuGard Security” in white opaque ink on the backside of the paper, coin-reactive ink that displays tampering by scratching, and more.

Glatfelter, York, Pa., introduced a new premium paper swatch book based on a travel theme. It includes nine product lines and 22 tear-off sample pads, making it the most expansive Glatfelter book. The book also includes a bulk chart, a short form chart and three samples of environmentally friendly papers.

NewPage, Miamisburg, Ohio, renamed its coated No. 5 and uncoated web lines as a result of its acquisition of Stora Enso North America. The products will still have the same designs and attributes, the company said. Coated No. 5 groundwood web offset and rotogravure products are now Consoweb and Consoweb Advantage—formerly ConsoPress and ConsoPress Advantage. Former SC-A+ and SC-A brands MagniPress and SuperiorPress are now Voyager and Superior Gloss, respectively. NewPage will continue to offer the Arbor design in the No. 5 and SC-A+ categories. ExoPress and ExoPress Plus are now Spartanweb and Spartanweb Pluss. Additionally, the company introduced a new product, Expedition, a lightweight uncoated product with the brightness of a No. 4 coated groundwood paper.

SAGE, Carrollton, Texas, released the SAGE Supplier Center 2.0, a new industry communication tool for the promotional products industry. It includes the SAGEim instant messaging system, multi-session and chat capabilities. Suppliers can use the center to upload order tracking information using an XML interface, or to upload multimedia audio and video presentations.

Kodak, Rochester, N.Y., will release its ColorFlow software at drupa in May 2008. The program, designed to integrate color control through the production environment, will include monitors, scanners, halftone and inkjet proofers, and digital and conventional presses. The software uses open standard formats and will work with Kodak and non-Kodak systems, and complies with ISO 12647 printing and ISO 10128 printing system standards. It also supports international PDF/X data exchange formats and JDF job control specifications.

Printable Technologies, Solana Beach, Calif. signed a reseller agreement with Canon, Lake Success, N.Y., for the latter to resell the FusionPro web collateral management and web-to-print solution. EFI, Foster City, Calif., announced two new superwide format printers in its QS series. The new machines have 4- and 6-color configurations. Both the QS2000 and the QS3200 offer 1080 dpi on both rigid and flexible substrates up to 3.2 meters wide and 2 inches thick.

Muller Martini, Hauppauge, N.Y., introduced a new JDF controller/editor at a JDF user group meeting held by PIA/GATF in March in Pittsburgh. The new system will allow operators to perform setups remotely, minimize delays and rework, and reduce wait time, the company said. Muller also introduced the Sample Gluer 423, an in-line gluing technology for saddle stitchers.

Xanté, Mobile, Ala., introduced the Ilumina 502 short run color press, ideal for printing on oversized, ultra-thick cover paper. The press is ideal for small to mid-size print shops because of its price, the company said. The machine can print on a wide range of special substrates, including fiber-enhanced papers such as textured canvas, sleek metallic, cast coated and magnetic stocks.

InfoPrint Solutions, a joint venture between IBM and Ricoh, introduced the EMP156, a new monochrome cut sheet printer. The new machine offers speeds up to 156 pages per minute, the company said, and a monthly duty cycle of up to 4.5 million impressions.

Millersville University of Pennsylvania purchased a Mark Andy press and offers a flexo curriculum thanks to a $10,000 donation by the NorthEast Label Manufacturers Association (NELMA). The donation capped off two years of fundraising and logistics that allowed the university to secure matching funds from the Foundation of the Flexographic Technical Association. Mark Andy also donated a significant amount of the purchase price. The new press, a 10-inch 4-color Mark Andy 2200 complements the Graphic Communications Department’s existing sheet-fed litho presses.

Flint Printing Group, Luxembourg created a new flexographic products group. The new division will open opportunities in the photopolymer sleeves market, which is growing, the company said. Dr. Thomas Telser, former president of Flint Group Printing Plates, will run the new division, which includes the printing plates group activity.
