Print Solutions August 2006
technology showcase
The Print Solutions Technology Showcase:
Live Equipment Demos at Booth 635!
as of July 21
For the first time at the Print Solutions
Expo, attendees will not only be able to peruse an endless
collection of print products and solutions, but they will also
get the chance to see equipment demonstrations by big-name
suppliers on the show floor. From a narrow web addressing unit
by Kodak to an integrated label affixer supplied by FME, from
Innovative Equipment’s offset plastic card press to a pad
printer by STI, The Print Solutions Technology Showcase
promises to be an exciting mix of both cutting-edge digital and
traditional printing with a wide array of applications for many
vertical markets.
Here are highlights of some of the
equipment featured at the show:
Revolutionary Mail Processing System from
TPS Group

Watch TPS Group Inc., Lisle, Ill.,
demonstrate its revolutionary EasyMailer mail processing
system. The EasyMailer delivers affordable, personalized direct
mailers and marketing pieces in a single pass. It creates
personalized envelopes and letters with variable graphics and
text from a digitally printed document. It can match, cut,
fold, wrap and seal up to seven pages. The EasyMailer’s
bar-coded tracking system verifies the integrity of every
envelope and its contents for recipients. The system also
increases response rates and eliminates paper waste and
envelope warehousing.
STI Launches its New Magnetic Sealed Ink
Cup Series Pad Printers
Service Tectonics Inc. (STI), Adrian,
Mich., will introduce its new Model 804 magnetic sealed Ink Cup
series pad printer at the 2006 Print Solutions Expo. Pad
printing allows manufacturers to print on 3-dimensional objects
and at complex angles. This printing method is used to print
many types of promotional products such as mugs, pens and golf
balls. The Model 804 comes with an 85mm magnetic ink cup in one
or two colors. It also has an optional shuttle table and allows
2-color printing with only one nesting feature and covers a
print area of 3 inches.
Duplo USA Unveils its V-415 JetBinder
– a New Check 21 Solution
At the 2006 Print Solutions Expo, Duplo USA
Corp., Santa Ana, Calif., will reveal a prototype V-415
JetBinder cut-sheet burster with side edge gluing capability.
Duplo will also showcase its improved, high-performance
V740/760 form burster with its V170 slit/merge option.
The V-415 JetBinder is an ideal finishing
solution when printing 2- to 8-up images per form. Direct from
a laser printer to the V-415, pre-perforated forms are
automatically burst at the perforation mark, ink-jet glued on
any number of groups or sets and stacked at speeds up to 8,400
forms per hour. The JetBinder eliminates the need for cut sheet
bursting by hand.
The V-740/760 continuous feed bursters
offer standard and optional features to suit any continuous
forms handling requirements, and they enhance a
document’s final appearance. The optional V-170
slitter/merger slits the continuous forms vertically. One web
is brought over the other (merging) and fed simultaneously into
the V-740/760 burster. The V-740/760 synchronizes automatically
with the V-170 slitter/merger.
Forms Manufacturers Equipment Inc.,
Maitland, Fla., and the manufacturer, Addvalue2print LLC, East
Dundee, Ill., will jointly exhibit equipment. The line consists
of a Van Den Bergh 18S labeler, which can affix labels, cards,
holograms and any other product that comes in a roll with a
liner. In line with the 18S labeler will be a rotary die-cutter
to complete the manufacturing of these integrated products.
There will also be a Docufinish machine which produces
integrated products sheet to sheet.
Innovative Equipment Demonstrates its
Tabletop Offset Press
See Innovative Equipment Ltd.’s
INNOCARD AR-010 tabletop offset press in action. It’s
ideal for printing multicolor plastic cards, telephone cards,
envelopes, labels and small-sized sheets for both short and
long runs. It also works as an auxiliary press for offset or
screen printing plants. The Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. company says
the INNOCARD AR-010’s features include
microprocessor-controlled operation; easy-to-use control panel
with symbols; full-bleed printing with a 3-form roller; perfect
color registration; on-the-run image positioning and steps of
0.0005 inches and a drop style ink fountain for rapid cleanup
and color changes. The offset press also offers a minimum sheet
size of 1.8 x 3.2 inches and a maximum sheet size of 6.5 x 10.4
inches, a maximum print area of 6.5 x 8.8 inches, a maximum
speed of 7,000 sheets/hour and a plate size of 8.7 x 9.1
inches.
The DTG Kiosk printer, demonstrated by SWF
East Inc., is desktop size and can print on T-shirts,
fashion accessories, sportswear, swimwear, curtains,
sheets, towels, flags, banners and more. It can print 20 to 60
T-shirts per hour, on flat substrates up to 5.5 inches thick,
in detail up to 2880 dpi.
The DTG Kiosk converts images designed on a
PC or recent-model Macs, and with some shirts available under
$2 apiece it’s a cost-effective tool even for short runs.
