Steve Reifel was named general manager of DeSoto, Texas-based manufacturer Ennis Business Forms Inc.'s Houston facility. He has served the company for nearly five years, holding various positions at its Ennis, Texas, facility, including maintenance supervisor, imprint production supervisor; continuous pressroom supervisor; and safety, cost savings and special projects manager. Reifel previously served companies such as Atlas Sound, American Home Star and Freightliner Corporation.
William A. Etherington was appointed to the board of directors at Dayton, Ohio-based manufacturer The Relizon Company. He provides guidance to the company based on his business knowledge and experience gained during a 37-year career with IBM Corporation. A professional director who sits on several public boards, Etherington was recently elected chairman of the board of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Sarah L. Burton was named CFO. Burton, who had been acting as Relizon's CFO since June 2003, also retains her position as vice president and treasurer. She's responsible for the company's finance, accounting, tax and internal audit functions. Her treasury responsibilities include banking relations, cash management, investor relations, debt management, risk management, lease analysis and real estate functions. Prior to joining Relizon, she served 12 years in a variety of finance and treasury management positions at the Ohio Casualty Insurance Company, most recently as corporate treasurer. Anthony J. Bender joined the company's U.S. Business Communications Group as chief information officer. He previously served as vice president of information services at Dan River Inc., a textile manufacturer and marketer based in Danville, Va.
Vincent H. Lapinski was named COO of Westmont, Ill.-based supplier MAN Roland Inc.'s web operations and a member of the company's board of directors. He oversees the company's newspaper and commercial web operations in North America. Lapinski, who joined MAN Roland in 1990, previously served as senior vice president. Todd Andrews was named general manager of the company's Eastern region. He continues to serve as corporate secretary and as a member of the company's executive management team. As general manager of the Eastern region, he oversees sheetfed press sales, project management, service, parts and other support functions. Andrews joined the company in 1997 as general counsel and corporate secretary. Douglas J. Bradley was named vice president of web service. Previously, he served as global OEM portfolio manager and global segment director for support services at Kodak. Alan J. Miller was named newspaper regional sales manager for the South. He's responsible for newspaper press transactions. Based out of his home office in Florida, Miller has more than 25 years of newspaper industry experience. Previously, he served Rockwell Automation as a sales director of the company's print initiative. Mark Juratich was named manager of the company's newspaper tower add-on business. He's responsible for offering consulting services to newspaper executives who are considering tower add-ons to improve the productivity and color printing capabilities of their pressrooms. Previously, Juratich served three years as director of engineering for the Chicago Sun-Times.
Gary Stafford was promoted to executive vice president of Rochester, N.Y.-based Lazer Inc., a full-service provider of digital solutions for imaging, prepress and asset management. He's responsible for managing daily company operations. In his previous position of senior vice president, Stafford managed the company's sales team, served as chief technology officer and led the company's recent expansions.
NEW HIRES
Patrick O'Brien was named director of sales and marketing at manufacturer BARCO LABELS, a division of Xertrex International Inc., Itasca, Ill. He's responsible for developing and implementing strategic sales and marketing plans to help distributors grow their businesses. O'Brien, who has 15 years of industry experience within the independent and direct business segments, previously served in product management capacities at manufacturer Wallace Computer Services' label and business forms divisions.
Sean M. Sullivan was named to the newly created position of director of strategic accounts/alternate channels at Printable Technologies Inc., a graphic arts industry online technology supplier in Solana Beach, Calif. He's responsible for the development of major accounts, direct marketing to specific corporate enterprise clients and direct sales support to sales executives at Hewlett-Packard, Printable's strategic enterprise partner. Previously, Sullivan served five years with Banta Integrated Media, a software developer of enterprise digital content management, e-commerce and customer publishing applications in Cambridge, Mass.
Vaughn Gordon was named national sales director of Elgin, Ill.-based manufacturer Continental Datalabel. He's responsible for providing technical support to distributors. Gordon, who has more than 30 years of experience in the paper, pressure sensitive laminating and label industry, previously served major pressure sensitive laminator companies as well as label and forms organizations nationwide. Jeff Bloeser was named Southeastern regional sales manager. He leads label seminars and works with distributors to help them increase their label sales. Bloeser, who has 20 years of experience in the label industry, is based in the Atlanta area. Brad Whittaker was named Western regional sales manager. Whittaker, who has more than 16 years of printing and label experience, is responsible for serving accounts in the Western states.
Jeff Otto was named sales and marketing manager at manufacturer Spectrum Digital Services, Hartland, Wis., which specializes in CD and DVD printing, duplication and packaging. He's responsible for coordinating the release of new company products.
Jim Dofflemyer, Ed McCall and Jason Sedgwick joined Hunt Valley, Md.-based distributorship Webb/ Mason as sales account executives. They're responsible for sales management and business development in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, Houston and Maryland, respectively. Dofflemyer, McCall and Sedgwick have more than 35 years of combined industry experience, including backgrounds at companies such as Wallace Computer Services and Relizon.
Michelle Griffin was named vice president of customer experience at supplier Océ North America, Chicago. Griffin, who is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, initially is focusing on the company's service organization. Previously, she directed the operations of the Six Sigma program at Charlotte, N.C.-based Bank of America, helping the company attain multimillion dollar bottom- and top-line gains. Six Sigma is a business improvement process that focuses on customer requirements, process alignment, analytical rigor and timely execution.

John Nelson, 86, founder and owner of Brooklyn, N.Y., supplier American Numbering Machine Company, died Sept. 29, 2003 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, Pa. A resident of Buck Hill Falls, Pa., Nelson was born Aug. 25, 1917 in Buffalo, N.Y. He graduated from Brooklyn Polytech with bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering. Nelson, who was a consultant and engineer for 60 years, was known for his knowledge and expertise of numbering machines for printed documents and banknotes. He joined numbering machine supplier Atlantic Force in 1971 and remained active with sister company Atlantic Zeiser until the age of 82. He also was a founder and original member of International Business Forms Industries. An avid skier and golfer, Nelson was a lifetime honorary member and a realty board member of the Garden City Ski Club. He also was a member of the Pocono Ski Club and Buck Hill Golf Club. Nelson is survived by his wife of 29 years, Betty (Haesloop) Nelson; a son, Jack Nelson of Victorville, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia Strong of Denver; two stepdaughters, Diane Kobes of Wheaton, Ill., and Patricia Ivansheck of Salem, Conn.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Cremation services were held at Bolock Funeral Home and private funeral services were held. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
