Tetra Recart, Sweden, which makes the Tetra Pak rectangular food carton, introduced an FSC-certified package. The new item weighs 18 grams, compared to 50 to 200 grams for the traditional model. It’s made of FSC-certified wood fiber, and can be recycled. It will initially be used for Sainsbury’s chopped tomatoes.

Visual Exemplars Ltd., Edinburgh, Scotland, released Perspector v. 4.0, a PowerPoint add-in that converts certain attributes (such as bulleted lists) into three-dimensional objects. The program offers artwork and other graphic upgrades without additional software installations.

Arthur Blank & Co., Boston, announced a partnership with INSIDE Contactless, Redwood City, Calif., for the supply of its newly released L4 2.5G MicroPass platform. Arthur Blank will use the MicroPass L4 platform as the basis for its contactless bank card products, offering a complete solution to its Visa, MasterCard and Discover customer base. Contactless payments are payment transactions that do not require physical contact between the payment device and the point-of-sale terminal. The consumer holds the contactless card in close proximity to the POS terminal and the payment account information is communicated wirelessly.

Standard Register, Dayton, Ohio, reached an agreement with The Mississippi State Medical Association (MSMA), Ridgeland, Miss., to make available to its members tamper-resistant prescription pads that meet both federal and state security prescription requirements. Under the terms of the agreement, MSMA members will receive a discount on their prescription pads and paper from the Dayton-based company. Standard Register’s ScripPlus prescription pads combine heat-sensitive inks, micro-printing and unique background patterns, artificial watermarks, chemical-sensitive coatings, warning bands and consecutive numbers.

Ennis Inc., Midlothian, Texas, installed a new UV inkjet printing system. The 6-head custom design allows for a printing width of up to 14.25 inches and includes its own prepress station for designing barcodes and importing variable imaging files. The machine allows Ennis to expand its ION Deposition Printing and crash imprint numbering system, the company says. It is the first Ennis printer that can print with UV ink.

Whitson Bindery Services Ltd., Chicago, installed a Muller Martini AmigoPlus perfect binder, which adds side gluing and electronic cutoff to the shop’s capabilities. The 10-person company specializes in short to medium runs.

Gator Media Group LLC, West Caldwell, N.J., purchased a Kodak NexPress 2500 and a NexGlosser unit for the company’s third anniversary. Gator can now provide short run color and VDP, the company said.

ADPRINT Company, Portland, Ore., installed a Xerox DocuColor 8000AP to produce a higher-quality digital printed piece. “We’re finding that more of our customers’ jobs are well-suited for being printed digitally and there’s no longer much of a stigma attached to digital print. With the DocuColor 8000AP, we’re now able to turn jobs around more quickly, often on the same day,” said owner John Trachtenberg.

WMSG, Dallas, Texas, added six Kodak NexPress 2500 printers to its pressroom to print direct marketing materials for growing customer demands, the company said. Last year, the company produced 30 million impressions with its existing six NexPresses, focusing on VDP programs. “This allows us to produce large volumes of high quality materials on multiple presses, thus helping dispel the rumor that VDP is for short run jobs only,” said President Jim Liszewski.

Kodak, Rochester, N.Y., announced that its Pandora software completed JDF certification requirements, administered by industry groups CIP4 and PIA/GATF. The certification verifies that Pandora meets standard requirements for interoperability. The software complies with the JDF program’s Layout Creator to Imposition (LayCrImp) ICS as well as Level 0 of the BASE ICS for hot folders. Kodak will pursue certification for eight other products.

Videojet, Wood Dale, Ill., introduced the 4320 ink jet addressing and imaging system. The new equipment offers resolution up to 600 dpi and expandable printhead configurations from two to eight inches, the company said. It uses Microsoft Access and is LAN-ready.

Océ, Trumbull, Conn., introduced the VarioStream 9510 and 9610 black and white duplex printers, which offer greater speed than previous VarioStream machines and increase productivity up to 80 percent, the company said. They can be upgraded to higher speeds, and can be transformed into various other models with the company’s CustomTone colors.

Apago, Alpharetta, Ga., signed an agreement with Prinux to develop and market the company’s AcrosuitePRO software, a set of independent plug-ins for Adobe Acrobat that help maximize productivity for on-demand digital printers, the company said. Apago will integrate its PDF technologies into AcrosuitePRO, and will convert the standalone product. The program will allow printers to create a single “virtual job ticket” that is equipment-neutral.

Muller Martini, Hauppage, N.Y., introduced a splitting saw and turnover belt for perfect binding lines. The new products are designed to increase efficiency in two-up perfect production. Both products can be adjusted automatically without tools, and are operable by touchscreen. The belt can be mounted on the saw or used as a freestanding unit in a delivery section.

Mohawk Paper, Cohoes, N.Y., now offers its 28-inch by 40-inch paper in its Mohawk Options line, increasing the options of basis weights for printers in response to popular demand, the company said. The new options include Crystal White in 100 lb. text, True White 96 in 100 lb. text, and 100 percent PC White in both 80 lb. cover and 100 lb. text.
