All that Matters to the Printing Industry

On Jan. 20, DMIA launched Print Matters, a new weekly online publication. As the name reflects, the publication focuses on printing industry issues that matter to its readership of 10,400 DMIA member company employees.

“Print Matters has exclusive stories and interviews you won’t see in other DMIA publications,” says Brad Holt, DMIA’s vice president of Publications and New Media. “The E-Weekly was five-years-old, and very popular with readers—by 2005 circulation had quadrupled. We were emailing this publication to more than 10,000 people each week. That’s half a million member contacts each year, a big number that suggested we should devote more resources to this publication. So, we made it a full-time job and assigned Preeti Vasishtha, an assistant editor on the magazine, to re-engineer it.”

Last November, Vasishtha surveyed readers to find out how the newsletter could become more useful and informative. Based on their suggestions, Print Matters retained sections such as “Solution of the Week” that readers rated highly. New sections were developed to spark business ideas and help readers gain a better understanding of the industry. For example, the “Special Report” is an in-depth article that highlights a trend in the printing industry. The “Q and A” features interviews with industry experts on topics such as hiring college graduates, motivating customer service people, successfully selling variable digital printing, and more. “What’s Hot” takes an in-depth look at a new product distributors might offer their clients.

Print Matters also has a new, visually appealing design, also based on reader suggestions, that makes it easy to navigate. For example, the “News” section covers printing industry happenings and the “DMIA News” section features information related only to the association.

The publication is free to all employees of DMIA member companies. For more information, visit www.PSDA.org/printmatters.html or call (800) 336-4641.
