BRIEF: The Manufacturer and Supplier
Print Conference from May 17 -
19 in Philadelphia will offer
ways manufacturers can make their
operations more efficient.
DMIA’s
2006 Manufacturer & Supplier
Print Conference
Six
Reasons for Success
By
Dennis McGarry, CDC
Trade
printers and manufacturers face
considerable challenges. Ink-on-paper
applications are being increasingly
replaced by electronic transactions,
and more fringe industry participants
are competing with traditional
forms and document printers. Since
the inception of the Manufacturer
& Supplier Print Conference,
one of DMIA’s goals has
been to increase manufacturers’
efficiency and evolve their operations.
Here are six reasons why this
year’s conference, May 17-19
in Philadelphia, is critical to
your success:
1.
It’s in conjunction with
the On Demand Expo. The conference
begins at the conclusion of the
On Demand Conference & Expo.
After viewing the latest technologies
at the On Demand show, you can
meet your peers and discuss what
you’ve see, the latest trends
and how to avoid pitfalls.
2.
Tackle challenging times.
Trade printers face a shrinking
order base from distributors and
need new channels to survive.
How can you remain loyal to your
distributor base while growing
other sales channels? Learn this
at one of the education sessions.
Another
challenge is rebates and other
price concessions. Three industry
veterans—Casey Campbell,
president and CEO of Printegra,
Peachtree City, Ga.; Paul Keith,
president and CEO of Keith Solutions
LLC, Bowling Green, Ky.; and Graham
McClean, founder of Global DocuGraphix
Inc.—will lead a discussion
on how to deal with rebates and
special deals for your best customers.
Hear both sides of this important
issue.
3.
Add new products and services
successfully. Several sessions
will address this issue. Roger
Buck, CDC, national sales manager
of Ward/Kraft Inc.’s Forms
Divisions, and Andrew Kohn, CDC,
president of Jerome Group, St.
Louis, will share their experiences
developing new products and successfully
selling them through distributors.
Another
session, “Manufacturer Success!
Take it to the Next Level!”
features four case studies presented
by manufacturers and suppliers
that have moved their companies
to the next level. They’ll
discuss developing new product
offerings, implementing a fulfillment
operation, offering web-to-print
and integrating new workflows
into plants.
4.
Discuss Issues at the President’s
Roundtable. DMIA President
Timothy Mehl, CDC, CEO of Dispatch,
Erie, Pa., will host the President’s
Roundtable, where you can discuss
any issue you like. Come prepared
for a frank discussion about sales,
running your plant, human resources,
and much more.
5.
Network with your peers. The
Supplier Showcase will feature
tabletop displays of new ideas
and applications from the best
industry suppliers. Spend time
with companies that understand
your business and want to strengthen
alliances with their manufacturing
partners.
6.
Learn what industry leaders are
doing today. Paul Reilly,
former CEO of Cenveo Inc., will
talk about the state of the majors,
how they might impact your company,
why their current focus means
business for you and which product
lines are growing for independents.
There
is much more than these highlights.
Step up and take a critical look
at what must be done to secure
your company’s future. Don’t
make your decisions in a vacuum;
meet with your peers. For more
information, visit www.DMIA.org,

and Supplier Print Conference

programs are sponsored by the
Print Education & Research
Foundation (PERF).

VistaPrint
North American Services Corp.,
the North American manufacturing
subsidiary of VistaPrint Limited
based in Bermuda, recently installed
a third ROLAND 700 in its Windsor,
Ontario plant. With that recent
addition, the company now runs
a total of five 41-inch presses
produced by MAN Roland. According
to the company, VistaPrint efficiently
prints its short-runs by aggregating
jobs on the ROLAND 700’s
41-inch sheets which can potentially
hold 143 business cards, 42
postcards, 21 oversized postcards
or nine pages of letterhead
per sheet. MAN Roland’s

Lasermax
Roll Systems, Miami Beach,
Fla., announced the availability
of its MICRcheck in-line MICR
verification system. It provides
assurance of MICR print quality
to manufacturers printing large
volumes of checks on high-speed
continuous digital printers,
without the waste and interruptions
inherent in an off-line verification
process, the company said. The
MICRcheck consists of a magnetic
read unit mounted on a web handling
module that is integrated with
a separate computer to provide
a user interface with analysis
charts, reports and archived
test data. Call (781) 345-1309.
MEGTEC
Systems, De Pere, Wis.,
announced the first U.S. installations
of its new DLC 5000 Match Speed
Paster, designed for high-volume
offset presses of 64, 72 and
80 pages. It will lower operating
costs by reducing paper waste
and splice tape consumption,
and lead to more efficient presses
by reducing roll changes by
31 percent, the company said.
The rolls load into the DLC
5000 by roll-handling systems
that have an adjustable automation
level that allows up to 100
percent operator-free roll changes.

headquarters at (800) 558-2884.
