Schober USA, Cincinnati, announced its second generation RFID machine that now includes the ability to read HF and UHF tags, has a new tag dispenser with web tensioning and a strategically placed start/stop button. The RFID machine also has an optional static discharge protection package. This new technology works with RFID transponders in accordance with ISO specifications in widths of 10 mm to 160 mm. Pre-printed labels with widths of 20 mm to 200 mm can be applied at rates from 5,000 to 20,000 labels per hour. Call (513) 489-7393.

ECRM Imaging Systems, Tewksbury, Mass., recently introduced an automated plate punching option on the MAKO 4matic CTP at IPEX 2006. The company said this patent-pending punch system was recently added as an option to the automated, full-featured 4-page CTP solution. The punch system achieves precision accuracy to within 10 microns and allows plates to be punched either in landscape or portrait orientation and can also edge-register by turning the punch option off. The MAKO 4matic can accommodate any plate size between 15.15-inches by 11.4-inches and 25-inches by 36.5-inches. The largest format provides space for oversized jobs such as 6-page gatefolds. Xitron, Ann Arbor, Mich., announced an upgrade to its Xenith workflow that will enhance direct driver support for Epson Ultrachrome K3 printers including the 4800, 7800 and 9800 models. The new 6.04.3 release available for both Xenith 4PDF and Xenith Extreme users also includes enhancements to preflighting with a new Enfocus library and enhancements to client software for both Macintosh and Windows platforms. Suntower Systems, Seattle, announced the eighth major release of its operation software package, Simple Accounting for Forms Experts Enterprise Edition (SAFE EE). The new version includes MSOfficeXtensions that allows users to print reports and forms directly to an Excel spreadsheet or Word Format; Combi-Scan which automatically searches customer quotes and vendor RFQs; Multi-Phase Signaling that allows users to save and recall all steps in jobs with several production phases for instant re-orders as well as several other new features. X-Rite Inc., Tewksbury, Mass., unveiled PlateScope, a dot measurement and plate process control device at IPEX 2006. PlateScope has integrated QC Plate software that allows manufacturers to profile their platesetters, plates, presses and paper types and automatically generate the proper gain curves and speed quality checks. Spiral Binding Company Inc., Totowa, N.J., announced the introduction of the Dibi 4255 Evolution Plus One-Step Shrink System that seals projects in high quality shrink-wrap, keeping them clean and crisp. The Dibi 4255 Evolution Plus has a timed magnetic cover latch with a clear chamber cover that allows the operator to view the product while shrinking it for quality control. Standard Register, Dayton, Ohio, launched SMARTworks QuickPrint, a web-based solution that streamlines document workflow and allows users to configure both simple and complex print jobs. Powered by SMARTworks, QuickPrint helps organize and control business-critical documents by printing them on-demand and eliminating inventory and obsolescence, according to the company. Yupo Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, unveiled a new swatch book to showcase its line of white, smooth, waterproof and tear and chemical resistant synthetic papers. The threefold swatch book displays Yupo’s new UV printable grade that requires no primer and its text, cover and translucent grades in various weights.
