Christi Moore
was promoted to general manager at manufacturer Pinnacle Label Inc., based in Dallas. Moore oversees all non-sales-related activities for the company, which she joined three years ago as chief accountant. John C. Neyland was promoted to regional vice president. With more than 10 years of industry experience, he oversees the company's sales in the Southwest from his office in San Antonio. Neyland joined the company as a sales representative in 1998.


Ric Fisher was promoted to the newly created position of executive vice president of process excellence at manufacturer PrintXcelSM, Englewood, Colo. Fisher leads the company through a comprehensive evaluation and integration of safety, pricing, preventive maintenance and total quality management/continuous improvement.

Randy Fry was promoted to sales manager at manufacturer Newtown/CPC, Buffalo, N.Y. With 17 years of industry experience, Fry leads a team of four colleagues and is responsible for managing his current accounts, order entry and a sales administrative assistant.

Thedford L. Collins was promoted to vice president of federal and international government affairs at Weyerhaeuser's Washington D.C., office. He's responsible for operating the company's Washington office and for maintaining its relationship with government agencies, Congress, the White House and Weyerhaeuser's international political contacts. Previously, Collins was responsible for Weyerhaeuser's government and public affairs in Arkansas, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Joel Moore was promoted to director of marketing at distributorship Bay State Specialty Co., Lakeville, Mass. He joined the company in 1996 and most recently served as information technology manager. Michael Moore was named national sales manager. With 10 years of industry experience, he most recently served as business development specialist at a consulting company.

Frank Wlodarczyk was promoted to second vice chairman of the executive board of the Graphic Arts Association (GAA), Philadelphia. Wlodarczyk, president of manufacturer Pomco Graphic Arts in Philadelphia, has been a member of GAA since 1998 and has served on the board of directors for the past three years.

NEW HIRES

Robert E. Fines was named vice president and general manager of manufacturer Fasson Roll North America, an Avery Dennison company headquartered in Painesville, Ohio. Previously, Fines served as president and general manager of General Electric Specialty Chemicals Inc.

James Clark was named marketing representative at manufacturer Xetex Business Systems Inc., Reading, Pa. He's responsible for marketing Xebra Client-Server software, primarily to Eastern U.S. distributors.

Roger Bishop was named accounting coordinator at distributorship Relyco Sales Inc., Dover, N.H. Brenda Chaisson was named partner development coordinator/marketing assistant. Ken Dickson was named account executive for Pennsylvania. John Saurman was named account executive for outside sales in New England. Bob Spetsas was named account executive for New Jersey. Cindy Talon was named major account executive in the customer service department.

David K. Glomski was named vice president of strategic services at e-commerce supplier printChannel.com, based in San Francisco. He's responsible for professional and support services programs for the company's customers. Previously, Glomski served as vice president of digital asset management solutions for Getty Images Inc. and as global program director for Oracle Corp.'s FastForward program.


Donald Harn
was named Western region sales representative at manufacturer National Printing Converters, San Diego. With more than 25 years of experience in sales, sales management and marketing in the label industry, Harn is accountable for sales in 10 Western states.


John Barr was named a customer service representative at manufacturer InfoSeal LLC in Roanoke, Va. Experienced in the label industry, direct mail and commercial printing, he previously worked with InfoSeal products at TRANSKRIT.

John Zingale was named plant manager at manufacturer Royal Industries in Brooklyn, N.Y. Previously, Zingale owned A-Z Plastic Products, which Royal acquired in 1997.

Herbert H. "Woody" Davis III, Esq. was named senior vice president of corporate development and chief legal officer at manufacturer Mail-Well Inc., Englewood, Colo. He focuses on Mail-Well's acquisitions, mergers, integration and divestitures, as well as the company's legal activities. Previously, Davis advised Mail-Well as a senior partner of Denver-based law firm Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP, where he will remain employed.

Tammy Stiemke was named project manager for the Olympic line of racing numbers and accessories at distributorship PRINT-TECH Inc., Madison, Wis. She's responsible for coordinating marketing efforts for the Olympic line, ensuring that deadline and quality expectations are met for ASI distributors, exhibiting at trade shows, and supporting local events. Stiemke most recently served as assistant to the national sales manager at Trek Bicycle Corp.

AWARD

Brad Hazenstab, data processing/mail shop manager at News Printing Co. (NPC), Claysburg, Pa., received the Mail Center Manager Award from the United States Postal Service. The award was given to 11 professionals for creating a high-quality environment in the mail center and displaying excellence in mail-management skills.

RETIRED

R. W. "Bob" Chester
, printer, professor and inventor, retired after more than 60 years in the graphic arts field. Chester hand-set lead type, served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and invented the anhydrous ammonia system that replaced liquid ammonia in blueline/direct print machines. He used gravure to produce long runs of food cartons and designed food packaging still used today. He taught night courses in graphic arts at the University of Houston, started his own print shop and recently ran Boise's Copytyme Instant Print Center with his wife, Leta.


IN MEMORIAM

Craig T. Johnson
, 59, president and CEO of Dayton, Ohio-based manufacturer Crabar Business Systems, was killed on his motorcycle July 28 by a hit-and-run driver in Houston. The driver sped through a red traffic light, broadsided him and continued driving, said his wife Barbara Johnson. Police arrested a suspect, she said, and a criminal case is pending.
Johnson was a respected leader and friend to many, both in his personal life and in the paper and business forms community. The response to his untimely death has been overwhelming. He will be sorely missed.
Johnson is survived by Barbara; his father, Ted Johnson; and his sister, Brenda Edwards.

Daniel W. Cain, 62, chairman of the board at Toledo-based distributorship Precision Business Solutions, died July 23 from a blood disorder. Cain served in the printing industry for 47 years.
An avid fisherman, Cain was a devoted husband, father and religious role model. He was also a community leader with memberships to the Honorary Society of International Business Forms, Printing Industries of America--Ash Khan Society, the Order of Black Leaf, Young Life of Toledo, The Toledo Club, Toledo Country Club, Rotary Club of Toledo, and Rotary Club of Marathon, Fla. Cain was 15 years old when he started working at Industrial Printing Co., and 29 years old when he became president. He retired three years ago when Englewood, Colo.-based Mail-Well Inc. purchased Precision Business Solutions. He will be greatly missed.
Cain is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Larry Cain, Laurie Delaney, Amy Sares and Beth Napierala; his sisters, Patricia Rupli and Carol Schoonmaker; his brother, William Cain; and his 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Annie Cain. Memorial contributions may be made to Toledo Christian Schools, Young Life, or a charity of choice.
